I watch with fascination as my 14 year old granddaughter pulls out her sketchbook and begins revising one of her latest creations. She works intently, focused only on the task in front of her.
“I can’t wait to see your latest drawing,” I say.
“I’m nearly finished with it. I will show it to you before I take a pic and post it,” she says with a smile and slight glance my direction.
“I will be looking forward to it!” I smile as I turn back to my own project so she can work undisturbed.
I marvel as I watch her work with expertise and confidence. She has always been encouraged to pursue her art. Drawing and sharing her drawings is as natural to her as breathing.
As I begin the Slice of Life Story Challenge, I hope to write daily slices with the same assurance that I see in my granddaughter when she creates her art.
I look forward to this challenge and sharing inspiration and support with all of you. May all of us approach our daily blogging with my granddaughter’s confidence and focus. Happy writing, slicers!

Welcome – and enjoy the writing. I have done this for years and although it is not always easy I am always glad I wrote for this month. I love that your Granddaughter draws and posts. Very nice.

Thank you! Slicing every day was a challenge at times last year, but it was a tremendously positive experience. I grew so much as a writer. I am looking forward to this year’s challenge!

Thank you! I love that confidence to create in children. I find myself learning how to take leaps of faith in my writing simply by observing how they approach their creative endeavors.

Tracy!!! So glad to see notebookers taking the SOL challenge, too. I try to think about why kids like your granddaughter have no fear of writing and drawing and try to lean into that sense of confidence. Here’s to a busy month of writing, my friend!!

First of all, I would hardly have believed you have a 14 year old grandchild! And isn’t it wonderful to find inspiration from younger generations. This challenge takes that determination and perseverance to complete. Here’s to all of us reaching the finish line!

When I first read that you were writing with your granddaughter, I was challenged to write with my four year old granddaughter too. She loved sharing my journal and writing / drawing beside me. Thank you for that and glad to hear you are giving it a go with this challenge.

I was going on #100DaysofNotebooking to check in and see what others posted today, and your post caught my eye. You inspired me to jump in to Slice of Life. I haven’t done it for four years because school is always so busy this time of year. Not this spring, though. So I’ll give it a shot.

The process of creating art and writing, for me are quite similar, so of course I can just imagine you and your granddaughter fueling each others creative process. It could be cool to write what you see happening, or a memory from one of your grandaughter’s pieces?! Thanks so much for sharing and look forward to reading more all month!

Tracy, thank you for sharing and encouraging us to write with confidence and focus. This is my first Slice Challenge, and I need the encouragement. As Denise said, this time of year can be so busy for a teacher. But, I am giving it a go. I think being a part of the notebooking group will help because I feel like I can kill two birds with one stone. I love that your granddaughter is writing and posting as well.
